It’s a Blog Off!

October 10, 2012 Christina Martin

This month the Social Media Club of South Florida has challenged its members to participate in a 30-day blogging challenge.  There is a twofold purpose for this—to challenge people to create meaningful content every day for 30 days, and to connect and share information more within our social media community.

  • There is no word limit.
  • The post can be text, a photograph, a video, a podcast, or mixed media.
  • The blog must be a personal blog or your own company's blog. However, it should not be the blog of a company where you're being paid to post or where it's a part of your job description.
  • Do comment on each others' blog posts!

So why did I sign on to do this?  Like most of us, I work full-time, am active in my karate studio and I am planning my wedding – so I sometimes feel like the Tazmanian Devil, flying all over the place. As a result, I’ve been putting off my blogging activities, which is causing a drop in my readership.

While I started blogging because I enjoy writing, I also believe that I am a more productive employee when I challenge myself to think creatively outside of work. By developing and sharing content that interests and inspires me, I discover new approaches that can be applied to marketing strategies.

I am also a strong advocate for blogging to support your brand. Blogging is an often overlooked but important marketing tool.  By creating time-sensitive, relevant posts on a regular basis, you will increase brand awareness, support your SEO efforts and create the seed for a viral campaign.  You also provide a good opportunity to share industry and company news, and showcase your brand personality, products and services with your customers and prospects.

In the coming weeks, we will explore how blogging can be used as a valuable marketing tool.  But in the meantime, you can follow the Social Media Club of South Florida’s blogger challenge on Twitter with #SMCSFBlogOff or follow on Google Reader here:
