If you are planning to be in Denver for Frantech 2014, we’ve put together some fun things to see and do in your off hours.
Downtown Denver – Step outside the show hotel and you’re already in the heart of things! Hundreds of shops and restaurants populate the revitalized district. Named the 4th most walkable downtown in the US by the Brookings Institution, Denver has a number of must see attractions within walking distance. We can’t list them all here, so check out the handy link.
Go to Coors Field for a Rockies Game – If you get in the day before the conference starts you can see the Rockies play at Coors Field. Coors Field, acclaimed to be the “most prolific offensive ballpark ever created” because of its altitude at 5,280 feet above sea level, makes for some exciting high-scoring battles between the Rockies and their opponents. The game on Wednesday, April 9 is against the White Sox and kicks off at 1:10.
Brewery Tours – It has been called “the Napa Valley of Beers” because Denver is home a vast array of microbreweries, brewpubs, and beer cafes; more beer is brewed in Denver than any other city in the country. Ever since the city’s founding in 1859, Denver has been flush with saloons and barrooms that initially served to quench the thirst of miners and pioneers that rushed to the city after gold was discovered along the Platte River. Grab a list of breweries.
Road To the Sky – Less than an hour outside Denver is what is claimed to be the highest paved road in North America that demands a 9,000 foot elevation gain ultimately summiting at 14,240 feet. You will pass forests, lakes, etc. on the way up, and eventually get above the timberline to see expansive views.
Ski Breckenridge or Keystone – About 90 minutes from downtown Denver are two famed ski areas run by Vail Resorts. Obviously both premier ski areas that offer great snow, you can also go snow tubing, snow biking, get “whisked away” by sled to fine dining atop Breckenridge mountain, or go on a saloon tour. Loveland ski area is only a 50 minute drive (half-day pass anyone?) from downtown Denver, but it does not offer the variety of Keystone or Breckenridge.
We’ll see you at the Denver Marriott City Center for Frantech 2014, on April 10th and 11th.
